Does the SPS440 ship with mounting
rails?
The SPS440 ships with a pair of sliding rails
designed to support rack-mounting the SPS440 in industry-standard racks.
If you are having difficulty installing and mounting the
SPS440 in a rack, please contact Xinit Systems
support. A fully loaded
SPS440 can be very heavy - please do not attempt to mount the server in
a rack on your own. Seek the assistance of a colleague. Serious injury
can result from trying to mount the SPS440 in a rack on your own.
Does the SPS440 support IDE Drives?
The SPS440 is a SCSI-based server designed for
applications that require the higher bandwidth offered by SCSI
disk-drives. The SPS440 also
sports an embedded dual channel ATA-100 controller that is used to
control the CDROM drive and any optional IDE-based drives that are placed in the slim device bay.
How many disks can be installed in the
SPS440?
The SPS440 can support up to five internal 3.5" hard-disk drives that
can be configured for hot-plug with the optional SCSI RAID controller. It
does not support any futher device bay expansion but does
include an integrated 1.44MB floppy drive and 24x IDE CDROM drive which
can be upgraded to a CD-writer or DVD device. Additional disk storage
capacity can be provided by the optional external storage bay that
supports up to 12 drives in a 2U chassis.
What is included with the SPS440?

next-business day on-site warranty, 30-days of free getting-started
support, a quick start guide, complimentary 2m Cat-5 cables, a copy of the
latest
Red Hat Linux distribution on
CD and a Red Hat Linux Updates CD for the
included distribution. Extended warranty options are available on
request.
What operating systems does the SPS440
support?
The SPS440 is built using standard X86 technology and therefore can run
any OS that provides driver support for its network
hardware and video subsystem. It is certified by Xinit to run Red Hat Linux. Other Linux distributions
including Debian and SuSE are also supported but have not been qualified to the level of Red Hat. Customers can also run
Windows®
NT/2000 - why one would want to is another question.
How many network ports does the SPS440
have?
The SPS440 ships with one embedded Intel Pro/100+ Fast Ethernet port & one embedded Intel® Pro/1000+ port; and
SCSI controller as standard. Customers can choose to
upgrade the SPS440 to
provide up to 6 (six) Fast Ethernet ports via an optional PCI expansion
card. Other options include copper or fiber gigabit Ethernet.
I want to run "foo" software on the SPS440, is it
supported?
Xinit Systems delivers the SPS440 with Red Hat Linux pre-installed. There
is an enormous selection of Open Source software included
with the standard install that we perform. If you have any specific queries about the compatibility of a an application with our
server hardware, it is best to contact the vendor of the application to enquire what specific OS versions are supported and what

Does the SPS440 support single
processor configuration?
Yes the SPS440 is a high-end machine that scales from 1 x 1.6GHz Xeon® MP; processor to 2 or 4 processor configurations.
Is it possible to have both gigabit Ethernet and SCSI RAID configured on this system?
Absolutely. The SPS440 has 8 (eight) PCI expansion slots - six of which
can take full-length 64-bit PCI expansion cards and two 32-bit
PCI cards. It can be configured with multiple network,
SCSI RAID and fibre channel expansion cards.
